Fokker's still causing Trouble

Aug 9, 2006

A Fokker 100 lost its door during take off in Rio De Janeiro. The door fell off and crashed to earth near a supermarket. The Fokker 100 landed safely. The Fokker was owned by Brazilian airline TAM.

The Aircraft maker that made the Fokkers went bankrupt about 10 years ago, which was about the same time that Brazil experienced one of its worst airline crashes (with a Fokker through TAM airlines) in 1996.

Fokker Aircraft Industries
was founded in 1911, it was a Dutch based company and folded in 1996.  Amelia Earhart flew a Fokker when she became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic.  Stork Aerospace continues the name of some Fokker products.
